Why We Are Speaking

As family members and close friends of Andrew Hesselbart (Andy), we have remained largely silent about circumstances he has discussed publicly for many years.We care about Andy and sincerely wish him well. However, we believe it is important to provide some perspective regarding his repeated public statements about his family, his personal circumstances, and his ongoing requests for financial assistance.Our intention is not to embarrass or attack him, but to clarify that the circumstances are considerably more complicated than the account often presented publicly.

Our Perspective

Over many years, members of Andy’s family and close circle of friends have provided substantial financial, emotional, and practical support. Much of this assistance was offered with the hope that he would eventually achieve greater independence and stability.Despite this history, Andy has repeatedly portrayed himself publicly as having been abandoned by his family, often attributing the situation to political disagreements.We want to be clear: political differences are not the reason certain family members have established boundaries or chosen to limit further assistance.Those decisions reflect years of personal experiences, repeated requests for support, concerns about transparency, and the emotional and financial strain these circumstances have placed on people who have tried to help.Choosing to establish boundaries after years of involvement is not the same as abandoning someone.

Fundraising and Transparency

Since 2024, more than $15,000 has been raised through various public fundraising efforts on Andy’s behalf.We appreciate the generosity and compassion of those who have contributed. We recognize that many people genuinely want to help someone they believe is struggling.However, we have concerns about the continuing requests for financial assistance and whether potential supporters have a complete and current understanding of his circumstances.Over the years, family members and close friends have encountered inconsistencies in accounts of Andy’s health, personal experiences, and background, including concerns about how his military service and veteran status have been represented.We do not claim to know the full extent of his current medical circumstances, nor do we wish to dismiss legitimate health concerns. Nevertheless, these experiences have affected our confidence in the information being shared and reinforced our belief that transparency is essential when seeking public support.We encourage anyone considering a contribution to ask reasonable questions, seek current information, and make an informed decision.

Our Hope for Andy

We sincerely hope Andy experiences improved health, stability, and greater independence.We hope Andy is able to find lasting stability and that, over time, greater honesty, understanding, and personal accountability may help rebuild relationships that have become strained.Those of us sharing this statement have not reached our perspectives or decisions lightly. They reflect years of experiences, concern, and attempts to help.We are not asking anyone to withdraw their compassion or support. We simply believe that those who have heard Andy’s perspective deserve to understand that people who have known him personally for many years have a perspective as well.We also believe that no individual should feel obligated to continue providing financial or personal assistance beyond their own boundaries.Caring about someone does not mean that personal boundaries are a lack of compassion, or that those who have offered years of support should be expected to remain silent when their experiences are publicly misrepresented.We wish Andy well and hope he finds a healthier, more stable path forward.
